Tokyo Mega Illumination 2026 tickets cost ¥800–¥1,600 for adults. The price depends on the day you go and whether you buy in advance. The final season at Oi Racecourse runs from Saturday 31 October 2026 to Sunday 10 January 2027, but only on 53 of those days. It is closed from 24 December to 1 January, so you can’t go on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year’s Day.

This is our dedicated guide to the ninth and final season of 東京メガイルミ (Tokyo Mega Illumi). It covers every closed day, the two price tiers, which ticket sites work in English and which date is cheapest. There is also a last-chance list of what goes when the event pauses, and a plan for getting there from Haneda or Shinagawa. We checked every date, price and hour against the official tokyomegaillumi.jp pages and the organiser’s 25 September 2026 press release. Anything not yet published is marked TBA. Last checked 23 October 2026.

Key takeaways

  • Final season (Confirmed): the organiser, Tokyo Tokeiba, calls 2026–27 the “final season”. The event pauses from next season while Oi Racecourse is refurbished, and this is the last winter to see the Mega Tree.
  • Closed 19 days: 16–20 November, 30 November–4 December and 24 December–1 January. That means no Christmas Eve, Christmas Day or New Year’s Eve visit.
  • Two price tiers: “A” days (weekdays) cost ¥800 in advance or ¥1,000 at the gate. “B” days (weekends and holidays) cost ¥1,300 in advance or ¥1,600 at the gate. Preschool children are free.
  • Buy in advance: advance tickets save ¥200–¥300 per adult. Same-day sales can be stopped when it’s crowded, and tickets are non-refundable.
  • Easy from Haneda: take a Tokyo Monorail Local or Section Rapid train to Oi Keibajo-mae, then walk 2 minutes. By taxi it’s about 10 minutes.

When is Tokyo Mega Illumination 2026–27 open?

Confirmed: Saturday 31 October 2026 to Sunday 10 January 2027, on 53 days in total. Usual hours are 16:30–21:00, with last entry at 20:00. Entry isn’t timed, so you can arrive any time before 20:00. The official calendar shows earlier openings on these days:

  • 14:00 opening: Saturday 31 October and Sunday 1 November (opening weekend)
  • 15:30 opening: Monday 23 November (public holiday), Sunday 29 November, Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 January

On racing days the illumination closes, because the venue is a working racecourse. The organiser’s FAQ lists the closed days as Oi race days, 26–27 December and 1 January. The official calendar turns that into three closed blocks:

DatesDaysStatus
Sat 31 Oct – Sun 15 NovOpen daily (16 days)Open
Mon 16 – Fri 20 Nov5 days休息
Sat 21 – Sun 29 NovOpen daily (9 days)Open
Mon 30 Nov – Fri 4 Dec5 days休息
Sat 5 – Wed 23 DecOpen daily (19 days)Open
Thu 24 Dec – Fri 1 Jan9 days, including Christmas and New Year休息
Sat 2 – Sun 10 JanOpen daily (9 days)Open

The last weekday you can visit before Christmas is Wednesday 23 December. The last night of the whole event is Sunday 10 January 2027, the day before Coming of Age Day.

The illumination stays open in the rain. It may close in typhoons, storms or thunder, so check the official site or X account on bad-weather days.

How much are Tokyo Mega Illumination tickets?

Prices change by date. The official calendar gives every opening day a letter. A days are weekdays. B days are weekends, plus the holidays on Tuesday 3 November and Monday 23 November. The organiser says prices are the same as last season.

Ticket (as of 23 Oct 2026)A day (weekday)B day (weekend/holiday)
Adult (18+), advance¥800¥1,300
Child (elementary to high school), advance¥400700 日元
Adult, same-day at the gate1,000 日元¥1,600
Child, same-day at the gate500 日元¥900
Disability discount, adult / child (same-day only, plus one carer)¥600 / ¥300¥800 / ¥500
Preschool children免费免费

Over the 53 days there are 31 A days and 22 B days. The cheapest night is any weekday with an advance ticket (¥800). The most expensive is a weekend at the gate (¥1,600), so walking up on a Saturday costs you double. A family of two adults and two children pays ¥2,400 on a weekday with advance tickets, or 5,000 日元 on a weekend at the gate.

Best-value dates

  • Cheapest and quietest: weekdays from 2 to 13 November (except Tuesday 3 November, a holiday) and 24 to 27 November. The lights are the same as on any other night and Christmas crowds haven’t started yet.
  • Weekday in December: 7–11, 14–18 and 21–23 December are all A days at ¥800 in advance. 23 December is the last chance before the Christmas closure, so expect it to be busier.
  • After New Year: 4–8 January are A days. They are the cheapest final nights of the whole run.
  • If you need a weekend: buy in advance (¥1,300). Same-day sales at the gate “may be suspended” when it’s crowded, according to the organiser.

Where should you buy Tokyo Mega Illumination tickets?

There’s no ticket shop on the official site. Its ticket page links out to approved sellers. Advance tickets are date-specific and are sold until 19:00 on the day of your visit. Same-day tickets are sold from the machines at the entrance gate from 30 minutes before opening. The organiser’s FAQ says purchased tickets are non-refundable, so choose your date carefully.

What will you see? The last-chance list

The 2026–27 season is the last before a pause. The organiser’s wording is 一時休止 (“temporary suspension”) because of 再整備 (refurbishment) at Oi Racecourse, and no return date has been announced. One thing is certain: this is the last time the Mega Tree will be shown. The official site lists these highlights:

  • Mega Tree (メガツリー): the giant symbol tree, with a show of about 3 minutes set to music. This is its last season on show.
  • Rainbow fountain show (虹色に輝く光の大噴水): a 2½-minute show with water, light and lasers. Rock The Splash plays on the hour, Sing & Sing at :20 and Hyper Classic at :40. The last one, Hyper Classic, starts at 20:40.
  • Aurora Forest (オーロラの森): a 5-minute laser aurora across the night sky.
  • Twinkle Light Show: 1½ minutes in which the whole site, Mega Tree included, flashes in time with the music.
  • Edo Sakura Tunnel (江戸桜トンネル): a light corridor of about 100 m. Every bulb is shaped like a cherry-blossom petal.
  • Japanese landscape (日本原風景): rice paddies and countryside in light, on the scale of a racecourse infield. It is one of the press release’s headline zones.
  • Smaller photo spots: the Rainbow Staircase, a wisteria trellis, the Rose Garden, the NAKED Big Book projection, Colour Shadow and a light waterfall.
  • The horses: miniature horses (85 cm or under) and ponies appear every opening day in front of G-FRONT, and you can also watch them in the grazing area. On weekends and holidays, the Lead Horse & Fountain Show is scheduled at 17:20 and 18:20. Don’t use flash near the horses.
  • RODY collaboration (5th year): a new light-up candy flavour and a glow-in-the-dark keyring at the L-WING and G-FRONT goods shops. There is also a stamp rally with a prize draw and RODY photo greetings. “RODY gathering” (ロディ大集合): Saturday 21 – Monday 23 November at the paddock (Confirmed; the organiser will publish details later). Stamp rally dates: TBA. The release doesn’t give them.

Ward Citizens’ Weeks: the official calendar marks Shinagawa Ward Week from 31 October to 6 November, Minato Ward Week from 7 to 13 November and Ota Ward Week from 5 to 11 December. They bring workshops, stalls and stage shows by local groups. They mainly add family activities, and the lights are the same on every night.

Allow 1 to 1½ hours, according to the organiser, or more if you eat on site. Most of the event is outdoors, so dress warmly. You can re-enter if you ask for a re-entry ticket at the gate.

How do you get to Tokyo Mega Illumination from Haneda or Shinagawa?

The only entrance is the North Gate of Oi Racecourse (2-1-2 Katsushima, Shinagawa).

  • From Haneda Airport: take the Tokyo Monorail from any Haneda terminal. Ride a Local or Section Rapid train, since those are the ones the organiser lists. The non-stop Haneda Express doesn’t stop at Oi Keibajo-mae. From the station it’s a 2-minute walk. A taxi takes about 10 minutes (about 7 km on the Bayshore Route).
  • From Hamamatsucho (JR Yamanote Line): the Tokyo Monorail to Oi Keibajo-mae takes 8 minutes, then it’s a 2-minute walk. This is the easiest route from central Tokyo.
  • From Shinagawa: take Toei bus 品93 from the Takanawa (west) exit, stop 2. It takes about 20 minutes to Shinhamakawabashi, then a 5-minute walk. You can also ride the Keikyu Line to Tachiaigawa and walk 12 minutes, or take a taxi for about 15 minutes.
  • From Omori: take Keikyu bus 森22 from the east exit, stop 8. It takes about 9 minutes to Oi Keibajo-ekimae, then a 2-minute walk.
  • By car: about 700 spaces at ¥2,000 per day. Last parking entry is 19:50.

There are no ATMs or IC-card top-up machines inside, and payment options vary by stall. Top up your Suica or PASMO before you go and carry some cash.

A plan for your visit: weekday or arrival evening

Option 1: a weekday from central Tokyo

时间怎么做
16:00Monorail from Hamamatsucho (8 min). Gates open 16:30
16:30Walk the Edo Sakura Tunnel before the crowds arrive
17:00Rainbow fountain show (Rock The Splash), then the Mega Tree and Aurora Forest cycle
17:30Miniature horses and ponies in front of G-FRONT
18:00Dinner at the on-site food stalls (outside food isn’t allowed)
18:40Hyper Classic fountain show, then the Japanese landscape zone
19:30Leave by monorail, back at Hamamatsucho before 20:00

Option 2: straight from a Haneda arrival. Land in the afternoon, take the monorail to Oi Keibajo-mae, then continue to your hotel afterwards. The Haneda layover guide shows how to fit Tokyo between flights. The organiser’s FAQ says coin lockers are near the North Gate and there’s no change machine, so bring ¥100 coins. Leave large suitcases at the airport.

Leaving on a late flight? Visit at opening (16:30) and leave by 18:00. Haneda is about 10 minutes away by taxi, but check your airline’s check-in cut-off and allow time for traffic. December weekends can be busy.

💡 日本提示: Book the on-site “STAR LIGHT” BBQ (sold as a BBQ + admission set through Asoview!, linked from the official ticket page) if you want a guaranteed dinner table. It’s the only on-site food you can reserve. If you’d rather eat properly in town first, we can book you a dinner course in Shinagawa or Hamamatsucho in English.

Mega Illumination or the free city lights?

Most of Tokyo’s winter lights are free tree-lined streets, such as Roppongi, Marunouchi and Hibiya. Mega Illumi is different. You get timed shows, a 100 m tunnel, horses and food stalls, all in one site. Families and first-time visitors get more out of it for ¥800–¥1,600. Couples on a tight budget might prefer the free streets. Our 2026 东京灯饰指南 compares 14 light-ups. Our November 2026 events guide has more for early-season trips.
