Key Takeaways
- Book ahead. When we checked on 21 October, most dates up to 20 November were marked “few left” on the official ticket site.
- Prices change by date and time slot. Adults pay ¥4,400–¥4,800 on every open day up to Mon 23 Nov. Weekdays in early December are cheaper, and 28–31 December is the most expensive.
- Closed days: Tue 17 Nov, Thu 19 Nov and Tue 15 Dec 2026 (Confirmed, but subject to change).
- Allow 2.5 hours. teamLab says the average visit is over 2 hours 30 minutes. There is no time limit, but there is no re-entry.

What is teamLab Biovortex Kyoto?
It is teamLab’s largest museum in Japan. It opened on 7 October 2025 in Higashikujo, just south of Kyoto Station. It covers more than 10,000 square metres and has over 50 artworks. Many of them are built from light, water, mist and air, and change as you move through them. There are also two hands-on zones for kids: Athletics Forest, where you climb and balance, and Future Park, where you draw creatures that come to life on the walls.
It is busy for a reason. teamLab says more than 1.3 million people from 167 countries and regions visited in the first year. About 44% of them were overseas visitors, and about a quarter of those booked more than 30 days ahead (teamLab, 6 October 2026). Japan keeps winning with travellers too. JNTO reports that Japan was named Favourite Country for a Holiday for the second year running (JNTO, 9 October 2026).
Heads-up: Living Crystallized Light is closed for maintenance until early November 2026, according to the official site.
How much are teamLab Biovortex Kyoto tickets?
Prices for adults (18 and over) change with the date and the time slot. The official site lists ¥3,800 as the lowest adult price. Every date now on sale costs more than that. All prices include tax. If you buy at the door, add ¥200, and tickets there can sell out. You can choose from two ticket types, and the teahouse opens on 20 November.
1. Entrance Pass (Timed ticket)
The Lowdown: This is the standard ticket. You pick a date and an entry time when you buy, then join the queue at that time. Once you are in, you can stay until closing.
地点: 21-5 Higashikujo Higashi-Iwamotocho, Minami-ku, Kyoto (京都市南区東九条東岩本町21-5)
The Vibe: Dark, mirrored rooms full of drifting light and mist, plus a climbing zone for kids
价格: Adults ¥4,000–¥5,200 (Oct–Dec 2026 dates); ages 13–17 ¥2,800; ages 4–12 ¥1,800; age 3 and under free; disability ticket from ¥1,900
Official Link: kyoto.tickets.teamlab.art
💡 日本提示: Buy on the official site rather than a reseller. Only official-site tickets can change their date: up to three times, until two hours before your slot. Tickets cannot be cancelled.
2. Flexible Pass (Any time that day)

The Lowdown: You choose only the date. You can walk in at any time during opening hours. It costs roughly two and a half to three times as much as an adult Entrance Pass.
地点: Same museum, same entrance
The Vibe: For travellers whose day may change because of trains, weather or tired kids
价格: ¥12,000 per person, adult or child (add ¥200 at the door)
Official Link: teamLab Biovortex Kyoto – tickets
💡 日本提示: For most visitors this is not worth it. A timed ticket plus three free date changes covers most changes of plan. The Flexible Pass only makes sense on your arrival day, if a late flight into Kansai Airport could push back when you reach Kyoto.
3. Teahouse in a Sea of Light 一滴庵 (Teahouse, from 20 Nov)

The Lowdown: This tea room sits inside the artwork Sea of Solidified Light. When a bowl of tea is whisked, it starts to glow with its own rhythm and play sound. It also reacts to the bowls next to it and to the sea of light around it. Then you drink it. This is the artwork Tea in Spontaneous Order, and teamLab says no colouring is used in the tea.
地点: Inside teamLab Biovortex Kyoto
The Vibe: A quiet sit-down in the middle of the light, and a break from walking
价格: TBA. Whether you need a separate fee or a reservation has not been published yet.
Official Link: Teahouse in a Sea of Light
💡 日本提示: This is an art piece that serves tea, not a tea ceremony. If you want to learn how to whisk matcha yourself, with a host who explains the etiquette, book a session (see our tea ceremony guide). Then visit the teahouse for the contrast.

How do you get to teamLab Biovortex Kyoto from Kyoto Station?
Walk. It is 7 minutes on foot from the Hachijo East Gate (八条東口) on the south, Shinkansen side of Kyoto Station. That is the exit to use, not the Karasuma side with Kyoto Tower. From Shichijo Station on the Keihan Line it is 11 minutes on foot, which is useful if you are coming from Gion-Shijo. The museum has no parking. Tour buses cannot stop on the residential streets around it, so groups use the Hachijo-guchi chartered bus area at the station.
What should you wear, and can you take photos?
- Trousers over skirts. Some rooms have mirror floors. Staff lend wrap skirts near those artworks.
- Trainers. If you wear high heels, sandals or clogs, you cannot use some works in Athletics Forest. The museum lends free trainers, but it has a limited number of sizes and styles, so bring your own.
- Travel light. You cannot take in items longer than 50 cm. Pushchairs go in the luggage area. Leave suitcases at Kyoto Station.
- Photos and video are allowed, and you can post them on social media. Flash and drones are banned, and so are tripods, monopods and selfie sticks 30 cm or longer. Light-up shoes and glow sticks are not allowed either.
- No food, sweets or gum inside. You can only drink in the designated areas.
- Light-sensitive? Some works have flashing lights, loud sounds and scents.
How do you pair teamLab Kyoto with the autumn leaves? Leaves by day, light by night
Weathernews puts the peak in Arashiyama at around Tue 24 November 2026 (second forecast, 8 October). Our Kyoto autumn leaves 2026 guide recommends 20 November to 6 December as the best window. Tofuku-ji stops admitting visitors at 16:00 and teamLab stays open until 21:00, so see the leaves in daylight and the art after dark. Tofuku-ji is one of Kyoto’s most famous autumn spots, and it is one stop from Kyoto Station, the same side of the city as the museum.
- 8:30 – Tofuku-ji. Take the JR Nara Line one stop from Kyoto to Tofukuji, then walk about 10 minutes. From Sat 14 Nov to Sun 6 Dec, Tsutenkyo Bridge and the Kaisando open at 8:30 (last entry 16:00), and admission is ¥1,000. Arrive at opening, before the coach groups.
- Midday – Arashiyama or a rest. If you still want more leaves, Arashiyama is the big one. See our autumn guide for times. Otherwise, rest at your hotel.
- 17:30 – teamLab. Book the 17:30 slot. That gives you two hours before last entry, and you will be inside once it is dark.
- About 20:15 – dinner at the station. Walk 7 minutes back to Kyoto Station. Kyoto Ramen Koji, on the 10th floor of the station building, is open 11:00–22:00 (last order 21:30) and has no entry fee.
What it costs (adult, peak weekend such as Sat 28 Nov): Tofuku-ji ¥1,000 plus teamLab ¥4,400–¥4,800 comes to ¥5,400–¥5,800, before trains and food. Go on a weekday between Tue 24 and Fri 27 Nov and the museum costs ¥200 less. Avoid Mon 23 Nov. It is a public holiday, one of the busiest days of the season.

💡 日本提示: Want someone else to handle the early start? Book a local guide for the morning temple walk and spend your energy on the evening. If you are travelling on after Kyoto, crab season in Kinosaki Onsen is a good next stop.
Make a full day of Kyoto
Book guided temple walks, tea experiences and dining with local hosts in your language, then end the day at teamLab.
Is teamLab Kyoto worth it if you’ve done teamLab in Tokyo?
Yes, if you liked Tokyo. Kyoto is teamLab’s largest museum in Japan, and some of its works premiered here, including the Megaliths series (Time Out). You also get the new teahouse. If you have only a few days in Kyoto and have already seen a teamLab museum, put the temples first and keep teamLab for a rainy day or the evening.
