Nakameguro Guide 2026–27: Meguro River, Daikanyama and the Walk to Ebisu
Nakameguro is worth visiting all year, not just in cherry blossom season: this Nakameguro guide turns it into one flat walk along the Meguro River, past the Starbucks Reserve Roastery and the cafés under the tracks, then over to Daikanyama and on to Ebisu. In late March about 800 cherry trees bloom over the river and the crowds are huge, so the rules for that week get their own section.
The whole route is about 4 km on foot and costs almost nothing beyond coffee. Station times, opening hours and prices below were checked for 2026, with the 2027 dates that have been announced (so far, none for the sakura festival).

Where is Nakameguro and how do you get there?
Nakameguro Station is on the Tokyu Toyoko Line and the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line, says GO TOKYO. It is about ten minutes from Shibuya, with Daikanyama the only stop in between on the Toyoko Line. The Hibiya Line runs on to Roppongi and Ginza.
| From | Route | Time |
|---|---|---|
| ชิบุยะ | Tokyu Toyoko Line | About 10 min |
| ชินจุกุ | JR Yamanote to Shibuya + Toyoko Line, or Yamanote to Ebisu + Hibiya Line | About 20 min |
| Tokyo Station | Marunouchi Line + Hibiya Line, or Yamanote to Ebisu + Hibiya Line | About 25–35 min |
| Haneda Airport | Train | About 50 min |
| Narita Airport | Train | About 1 hr 55 min |
All of these take Suica and PASMO. If you only want the Meguro River cherry blossoms, you do not have to start at Nakameguro: Meguro City itself asks visitors to spread out by using Ikejiri-Ohashi (Den-en-toshi Line) at the upstream end or Meguro Station downstream.
The Nakameguro guide walk, stop by stop
This Nakameguro guide route runs downstream with the river, then turns east. Do it after 10:00, when the shops open, and finish in Ebisu for a beer. Each stop has the practical detail you need to decide whether to go in.

| 1. Meguro Sky Garden | 3 min from Ikejiri-Ohashi | ฟรี | A green rooftop start |
| 2. Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo | About 10–15 min along the river | Drinks | Kengo Kuma building, roasting |
| 3. Nakameguro Koukashita | Down the river to the station | Free to browse | Small shops and bars |

1. Meguro Sky Garden
A free rooftop garden, 3 minutes from Ikejiri-Ohashi Station at 1-9-2 Ohashi. GO TOKYO lists it as open daily 7:00–21:00, except in bad weather. From here, walk down to the river and follow it south.
2. Starbucks Reserve Roastery Tokyo
The Roastery opened on 28 February 2019 at Aobadai 2-19-23, in a Kengo Kuma building beside the river. GO TOKYO describes it as one of six Starbucks roasteries in the world, with a roastery, a cocktail bar, a tea floor, a bakery, a café and an outdoor terrace. It is 14 minutes on foot from both Nakameguro and Ikejiri-Ohashi stations, and there is no parking, says Starbucks Japan.
Hours: the Tabelog listing gives 7:00–22:00 (last order 21:30), with opening moved to 8:00 from 1 October 2026; Starbucks’ own page does not list hours, so check on the day. The Arriviamo bar takes reservations.
3. Nakameguro Koukashita and the cafés
Under the elevated tracks either side of the station, Nakameguro Koukashita is a strip of about 700 m of shops, bars and restaurants that opened on 22 November 2016 with 28 stores. GO TOKYO notes that Nakameguro Tsutaya Books anchors it. It is the best rain shelter on the route.
The streets around the river are full of small cafés and specialty roasters. We cover the best ones, including Onibus Coffee Nakameguro, in our best coffee in Tokyo, Kyoto and Osaka guide, so we will not repeat them here.

4. Daikanyama T-Site
From Nakameguro, Daikanyama is about a 10-minute walk uphill, or one stop on the Toyoko Line. Daikanyama T-Site, at 16-15 Sarugakucho, was designed by Klein Dytham Architecture and completed in 2011. It is a set of three linked buildings around Daikanyama Tsutaya Books, with smaller specialty shops joined by a garden path.
Hours vary by floor. During its summer 2026 fair the complex gave 9:00–22:00, per a press release, but check the store’s site before planning an early or late visit. Browsing is free.

5. Kyu Asakura House
Right by T-Site, Kyu Asakura House is a wooden house and garden built in 1919 for Asakura Torajiro, a former chair of the Tokyo Prefectural Assembly. It is a national Important Cultural Property and one of the cheapest sights in Tokyo, per this listing:
- Entry ¥100 for adults, ¥50 for primary and junior high students; over-60s and visitors with disabilities (plus a companion) free.
- Open 10:00–18:00 (last entry 17:30); from November to February it closes at 16:30 (last entry 16:00).
- Closed Mondays (the next weekday if Monday is a holiday). About 5 minutes from Daikanyama Station.
Go before the earlier winter closing kicks in, or see our Tokyo autumn leaves 2026 guide if foliage is the main goal.
6. Log Road Daikanyama
Log Road is a narrow strip of five cottage-style buildings and planting laid out on the site of the old Toyoko Line tracks. Tokyu lists Spring Valley Brewery Tokyo in Building 1 (craft beer brewed on site), Randy’s Donuts in Building 2 (since 2025) and Garden House Crafts in Building 5. It is 4 minutes from Daikanyama Station and 9 minutes from Ebisu. Each shop sets its own hours.
7. Ebisu and Yebisu Brewery Tokyo
Keep going north-east to Ebisu, then take the Skywalk to Yebisu Garden Place (about 5 minutes from the station). Sapporo’s Yebisu Brewery Tokyo runs a free 20-minute tour, no booking needed, and an English audio guide for ¥700 (¥1,800 with a beer; no cash).
- Open weekdays 12:00–20:00 and weekends and holidays 11:00–19:00; closed Tuesdays (Wednesday if Tuesday is a holiday) and over New Year.
- The 45-minute “Yebisu the Journey” tour (Japanese only) costs ¥2,000 with tastings and must be booked online.
- The brewery has announced a temporary closure and changed hours around an event in November 2026; check its site first.
How long do you need for things to do in Nakameguro?
Half a day covers the river and Daikanyama, the core of any Nakameguro guide; a full day adds Ebisu and a sit-down at the Roastery. Here is a timed version that fits the opening hours above, on any day except Monday (Kyu Asakura House) and Tuesday (the brewery).
| Time | Stop | Why then |
|---|---|---|
| 10:00 | Ikejiri-Ohashi, Meguro Sky Garden | Open from 7:00, quiet in the morning |
| 10:30 | Walk the river to the Roastery | Before the lunchtime rush |
| 12:00 | Nakameguro Koukashita and the cafés | Shops are open, lunch spots too |
| 13:30 | Daikanyama T-Site and Kyu Asakura House | Asakura closes 16:30 from November |
| 15:30 | Log Road Daikanyama | A beer at Spring Valley Brewery |
| 16:30 | Yebisu Brewery Tokyo | Last admission 19:30 weekdays, 18:30 weekends |
What does a day here cost?
Very little, if you skip the shopping. The only fixed entry fee on the route is Kyu Asakura House at ¥100. Meguro Sky Garden, Koukashita, T-Site, Log Road and the 20-minute Yebisu tour are all free. Add drinks, the optional ¥700 English audio guide in Ebisu, and train fares on your Suica or PASMO card.
What changes in sakura week?
Swap the order. During the festival weekend and the lantern evenings, do Daikanyama and Ebisu first, when the river is still manageable in the morning, or go to the river at dawn and leave the shops for the afternoon. Arrive and leave by Ikejiri-Ohashi or Meguro Station, as Meguro City suggests, rather than queuing at Nakameguro’s gates.
Meguro River cherry blossoms: when to go and the rules
The Meguro River is one of Tokyo’s most famous sakura spots: about 800 cherry trees over roughly 3.8 km, close enough to form a pink tunnel over the water, per GO TOKYO. Crowds peak from the end of March into early April.
| 2026 (past) | 2027 | |
|---|---|---|
| Nakameguro Sakura Festival | 28–29 March 2026 | Not yet announced |
| Lantern light-up | Late March to early April, 17:00–20:00 (planned) | Not yet announced |
| Bloom forecast | — | See our 2027 forecast |
The 2026 festival dates and lantern hours come from Walkerplus. For 2027 bloom predictions and other spots, see our Japan cherry blossom forecast 2027.
The three rules Meguro City asks you to follow
On 9 March 2026 the mayor of Meguro repeated three requests for hanami on the river. Expect the same in 2027:
- No litter. Return food and drink containers to the shop that sold them, or hand them to staff. There are few public bins.
- Keep it quiet. This is a residential area, and noise complaints are a real issue.
- Keep moving. Walk one way, without stopping, and follow the security guards’ directions along the river from Nakameguro Station.
The mayor also suggests going in the morning, when it is less crowded. A weekday before 9:00 is your best chance of a clear photo. The river is lined by narrow walkways, not lawns, so this is a walking hanami: if you want a picnic, eat here and sit in a park elsewhere. GO TOKYO also lists hanami cruises on the river from Tennozu Isle.

What is Nakameguro like in late autumn and winter 2026–27?
Quieter, and for this Nakameguro guide, a better time to shop and eat than spring. The cherry trees lose their leaves by December, but the cafés, Koukashita and Daikanyama are all open as usual.
- Late November to early December: autumn colour in the Kyu Asakura House garden. Note its earlier 16:30 closing from November.
- Winter illumination: we found no Nakameguro illumination announced for winter 2026–27. The big Meguro River light-up, “Meguro River Minna no Illumination”, is downstream in Gotanda and Osaki (Shinagawa City). The 2025–26 edition ran from 5 December 2025 to 31 January 2026, 17:00–22:30, with pink LEDs, per this listing; 2026–27 dates were not yet announced on 23 October 2026. See our Tokyo illuminations 2026 guide for confirmed light-ups.
- New Year: Yebisu Brewery Tokyo closes over the New Year holidays.
How does Nakameguro compare with nearby neighbourhoods?
| พื้นที่ | Feel | Go for |

| Nakameguro | Riverside, low-rise, cafés | Sakura, the Roastery, small shops |
| Daikanyama | Quiet, upmarket | T-Site, design shops, Kyu Asakura House |
| Ebisu | Busier, after-work crowd | Beer, dinner, izakayas |
| ชิบุยะ | Big and loud | Crossing, department stores, nightlife |
| ชิโมกิตะซาวะ | Scruffy, young | Vintage clothes, live music |
Nakameguro pairs well with Shibuya on the same day; see our Shibuya guide. If you like the indie-shop side, our Shimokitazawa guide covers the next step.

Nakameguro guide FAQ
Is Nakameguro worth visiting outside cherry blossom season?
Yes. The river walk, the Starbucks Reserve Roastery, the cafés under the tracks and the short walk to Daikanyama work all year, and the area is much calmer outside late March.
When are the Meguro River cherry blossoms in 2027?
Usually late March to early April. The 2026 Nakameguro Sakura Festival was on 28–29 March; 2027 dates have not been announced yet.
What are the rules for hanami at the Meguro River?
Meguro City asks you not to litter, to keep quiet, and to walk one way without stopping, following the guards. It is a walking hanami, not a picnic spot.
How far is the Starbucks Reserve Roastery from Nakameguro Station?
About 14 minutes on foot, the same as from Ikejiri-Ohashi Station. There is no parking.
How do I get from Nakameguro to Daikanyama?
Walk about 10 minutes uphill, or take the Tokyu Toyoko Line one stop towards Shibuya.
Is there a winter illumination in Nakameguro in 2026?
None was announced when we checked on 23 October 2026. The Meguro River illumination in recent years has been downstream in Gotanda and Osaki.
How much is Kyu Asakura House?
¥100 for adults and ¥50 for primary and junior high students. It is open 10:00–18:00, or until 16:30 from November to February, and closed on Mondays.
