Shibuya Sky tickets cost ¥2,700 for adults booked online for entry before 3pm, and ¥3,400 for entry from 3pm onwards. Buy on the day at the 14th-floor counter and it’s ¥3,000 or ¥3,700, but only if the slot hasn’t already sold out online. Most people miss that second point.

Here’s what you actually need: exact prices by age and time slot, when tickets drop (two weeks ahead, at midnight Japan time), how quickly sunset slots go, the rooftop rules that catch out half the queue (no hats, no bags, no selfie sticks), and how Shibuya Sky compares with Tokyo’s other observation decks. We checked the official booking calendar on 19 October 2026 so you can see real sell-out patterns, not guesses.

How much are Shibuya Sky tickets?

Shibuya Sky uses timed tickets with 20-minute entry windows. Prices depend on three things: your age, your entry time, and whether you book online (via the official Webket site) or at the counter.

A few details worth knowing:

  • The 3pm line is a ¥700 jump. A 2:40pm slot costs ¥2,700 online. A 3:00pm slot costs ¥3,400.
  • Online beats the counter by ¥300 per adult in every time band.
  • Children’s tickets are counter-only. The child has to be there in person, just before entry. Under-12s need an accompanying adult with a ticket.
  • Kids still get in on sold-out days. The official FAQ says child tickets are sold at the counter on the day even when a slot is sold out. The adult tickets are the ones you can’t buy once they’re gone, so book those online.
  • Disability discount: show a Japanese disability certificate at the 14F counter before entry and you get half the ticket price refunded, for the holder plus one companion. This is processed as a refund, so you still book the normal ticket first.
  • No group discounts. The FAQ is blunt about it.

If the Shibuya Sky price is just one line in a bigger budget, our Japan travel cost breakdown puts it in context.

Do you need to book Shibuya Sky in advance?

Yes, for anything after 3pm. Here’s what the official Webket calendar showed when we checked it late on Monday 19 October 2026:

Entry timeDays sold out (20 Oct–2 Nov)Days with “few left”Days available
15:00–21:2021–27 Oct, 1 Nov20, 28, 29, 30, 31 Oct, 2 Nov없음
10:00–14:59없음20–27 Oct28 Oct–2 Nov

That’s afternoon and evening entry sold out or nearly sold out for every date on sale, up to two weeks ahead. Daytime slots were still easy to get from the following week. One more thing we noticed: between two checks a few hours apart that evening, several 3pm+ dates flipped between “sold out” and “few left”. That’s cancellations being released back into stock.

The key rule from the official FAQ: if adult tickets are sold out online, the counter is sold out too. You can’t turn up and queue for a sold-out slot. The FAQ does say slots can reopen when other people cancel, so it’s worth refreshing the booking page the day before you visit, when free cancellations happen.

When do Shibuya Sky tickets go on sale?

Tickets go on sale two weeks before the visit date, at 00:00 Japan time (JST), according to the official FAQ. The counter sells up to two weeks ahead too, but it has the same stock as the website.

For a sunset slot, set a reminder for midnight JST exactly 14 days before. If you’re still at home, convert that to your time zone first: Japan is UTC+9 with no daylight saving, so midnight in Tokyo is 3pm the previous day in London (winter time) and 10am the previous day in New York (winter time).

How do you get Shibuya Sky sunset tickets?

The official homepage shows the day’s sunset time. On 19 October 2026 it was 17:04. Sunset in Tokyo gets earlier through November and December, so check the homepage for your date.

Our strategy:

  1. Book a slot that starts 40–60 minutes before sunset. Getting from the 14F gate up to the roof takes a while (bag check, lifts, lockers on 46F), and you want to be outside while it’s still light.
  2. Stay on after dark. There’s no time limit once you’re in (official FAQ), so one ticket gets you daylight, sunset and the night view. You can’t re-enter, so use the toilets on 46F.
  3. Be at the 14F gate inside your 20-minute window. If your slot is 16:20–16:39, arrive within it. You can’t go in early. If you’re late, staff may make you wait for a later slot or turn you away, and you pay the difference if the later slot costs more.
  4. No sunset slot left? Book 2:40pm and stay. A 14:40 slot costs ¥2,700 instead of ¥3,400 and has no time limit. In autumn and winter that means a two- to three-hour wait for sunset. We’d only do this on a clear day with time to spare, but it’s the cheapest way to see sunset and the night view on one ticket.
  5. Refresh the day before. Free cancellations end the day before the visit date, so people tidying up their plans release tickets right up to that cut-off. We watched sold-out dates reopen within a single evening.

If standard sunset slots are gone, check the THE ROOF SHIBUYA SKY bar packages too: they include admission and are sold as a separate ticket (details below).

What happens if the rooftop is closed?

The open-air rooftop, Sky Stage, is the main reason to come, and it closes more than people expect. The official ticket page lists strong wind, rain, snow, approaching thunderclouds, photochemical smog and extreme heat as reasons. The roof can close without notice.

The official rules for weather closures:

  • Free same-day cancellation if the roof is closed at your entry time, as long as you haven’t gone in yet. You can’t cancel once your slot is well past. This applies to official online tickets (Webket, plus the official Trip.com, KKday and Klook tickets). Counter tickets can’t be cancelled.
  • No refunds or discounts once you’ve entered, even if the roof closes while you’re inside. When booking on Webket you also tick a pledge accepting that rain, lightning, wind or heat can keep you off the roof and the 46F outdoor area.
  • The 46F indoor gallery stays open when the roof is closed.
  • Live status: the official homepage shows the rooftop as OPEN or closed, and the official SHIBUYA SKY X account posts updates.

Normal cancellation: online tickets can be cancelled free of charge until the day before your visit, through your Webket My Page. Cancellations work per payment, not per ticket. If you bought five tickets in one transaction, you can cancel all five but not just three. Counter tickets can’t be cancelled at all. Dates and times can’t be changed: cancel and rebook instead.

What are the Shibuya Sky rules? (Bags, hats, tripods)

This is where queues slow down. The rooftop has strict carry-in limits to stop things blowing off a 229-metre building.

Allowed on the rooftop:

  • Smartphones
  • Cameras on a neck strap, or small enough for a pocket
  • Binoculars on a neck strap, or small enough for a pocket

Not allowed on the rooftop:

  • Bags of any kind: handbags, backpacks, pouches
  • Tripods, monopods and selfie sticks (the FAQ allows them inside on 46F, crowds permitting, but not outdoors)
  • Earphones and headphones
  • Hats, caps and beanies
  • Food and drink
  • Anything that could blow away or fall
  • Your own pushchair (borrow one of the facility’s at the 46F information desk; there are limited numbers and some rooftop areas, like the helipad, are off-limits with one)

Free lockers on 46F take everything that can’t go up. They’re small: H32 × W37.5 × D43cm (official FAQ). No pockets? The 46F information desk lends small carry-out bags.

Not allowed in the building at all: large luggage including suitcases, food and drink (gum included), and pets (assistance dogs are fine). Smoking is banned throughout. Expect a bag check at entry.

Suitcase? Leave it at a Shibuya Station coin locker before you go up. Or use the shibuya-san tourist information desk on Shibuya Fukuras 1F, which the official FAQ lists as an option for large bags (space is limited). The FAQ also says showing your Shibuya Sky ticket there gets you half-price drinks. A second option is the bag-drop at Hikarie Conference on Shibuya Hikarie 11F, which has to be reserved online in advance.

Halloween warning: for Saturday 31 October 2026, the official notice says people in costumes the facility considers inappropriate for safety or security reasons may be refused entry or asked to leave. Shibuya on Halloween night is its own thing; our Tokyo Halloween 2026 guide covers what’s allowed on the streets.

Where is the Shibuya Sky entrance?

The ticket counter and entrance gate are on 14F of Shibuya Scramble Square, the tallest tower directly above Shibuya Station.

The official site’s big warning: Shibuya Sky is not the “Sky Lobby” on 11F of Shibuya Hikarie, the building across the road. People mix them up all the time.

Official directions:

  • Fastest route: take the dedicated SHIBUYA SKY lift from the building’s outdoor 1F entrance. It doesn’t stop at 2F on weekends, public holidays or busy days.
  • Underground: use exit B6.
  • JR lines: go through the Central or South ticket gates and head towards the East Exit.
  • Tokyo Metro Ginza Line: use the Scramble Square gate and turn left.
  • Tokyo Metro Hanzomon / Tokyu Den-en-toshi Lines: use the Miyamasuzaka Central gate and turn left.
  • Tokyo Metro Fukutoshin / Tokyu Toyoko Lines: turn right out of Hikarie Gate 1, or left out of Hikarie Gate 2.
  • Keio Inokashira Line: head towards Shibuya Hikarie after the gate.

How long do you need at Shibuya Sky?

There’s no time limit, but re-entry isn’t allowed. The experience has three zones: SKY GATE (the transition space from 14F to 45F), SKY GALLERY (the indoor viewing corridor on 46F) and SKY STAGE (the open-air rooftop).

We’d budget 60–90 minutes for a daytime visit, including the 46F locker stop and some time indoors. For a sunset visit that runs into the night view, plan on two hours. On 46F you’ll also find accessible toilets, a baby room, the SHIBUYA SKY SOUVENIR SHOP and the Paradise Lounge café and bar. Eating and drinking is only allowed there and at the rooftop bar.

THE ROOF SHIBUYA SKY: the rooftop bar package

From 29 April to 25 December 2026, the rooftop runs a seasonal bar. Until the end of October it’s open 16:00–22:00 (last orders 21:30); November–December hours are 15:00–21:00 (last orders 20:30). If the roof closes, the bar closes with it.

Package (per person, admission included)가격What’s in it
THE ROOF SEAT & STANDARD SET¥7,000Sofa seat, 2 drinks (alcoholic or soft), 1 snack
THE ROOF SEAT & CHAMPAGNE SET¥8,000Sofa seat, 1 mini bottle of champagne, 1 snack

Rules: you need at least two people, everyone must be 20 or over (under-20s aren’t allowed, even with an adult), and sofa seats work in time slots, from 0 to 50 minutes past each hour. With a normal admission ticket you can order à la carte at the bar counter, but only at standing tables. Packages go on sale up to two weeks ahead, like standard tickets.

The Standard Set costs ¥3,600 more than a 3pm+ online ticket, and you get a reserved seat and two drinks. On a sunset date where standard tickets are sold out, that’s worth considering. For more ideas after dark, see our 도쿄 최고의 바.

Is Shibuya Sky worth it? How it compares with other Tokyo observation decks

Shibuya Sky is the only big Tokyo viewpoint with a fully open-air rooftop at 229m, and that’s why people pay more for it. Here’s how it compares with the alternatives, using official prices checked 19 October 2026:

Observation deckHeightAdult priceOpen-air?예약

Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building202m무료아니요No booking; 20–30 min queues

Our take:

  • Pick Shibuya Sky for the open-air rooftop, sunset photos with nothing in the way, and a view straight over Shibuya. It’s worth it on a clear day. On a hazy or windy day, when the roof might close, it’s much less good value.
  • Pick Skytree for sheer height and a Mt Fuji view in winter. Full details in our Tokyo Skytree tickets guide.
  • Pick the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building if you’re on a budget. It’s free. The South Deck is open 9:30–22:00 (last entry 21:30) but shuts on the 1st and 3rd Tuesdays; the North Deck closes at 17:30 and shuts on the 2nd and 4th Mondays. Both close 29–31 December and 2–3 January. The official page says December to February gives the most Mt Fuji days. More in 신주쿠에서 할 일.

Combining Shibuya Sky with Shibuya Crossing

Scramble Square sits right on top of Shibuya Station, so the Scramble Crossing is a few minutes’ walk at street level. Our order: roof for sunset into night, then down to cross the Scramble when it’s lit up and busiest. Our first time in Tokyo guide fits both into a wider plan.

Where to buy Shibuya Sky tickets (and where not to)

  • Official site (best): the SHIBUYA SKY ticket page links to the official Webket booking system. You get a QR code by email or in My Page. Entry is possible 5 minutes after purchase. Each person needs their own QR code: print them, share them in advance, or arrive together and scan them all from the buyer’s phone.
  • Authorised resellers: the official FAQ lists 11 authorised sellers as of 1 September 2026, including Klook, KKday, Trip.com, LINKTIVITY and some rail packages (such as JR Central’s EX travel packs and a Tokyo Metro 1-day ticket bundle). Only the official Trip.com, KKday and Klook tickets are named for the roof-closure cancellation and the disability refund, each with its own cancellation process. Check the entry slot and terms before you pay.
  • Avoid: the official FAQ says tickets bought from unofficial resellers are void, and names Fliggy and Taobao specifically as sources of invalid resale tickets.
  • Annual pass: new sales of the SHIBUYA SKY PASSPORT (¥10,000 new, ¥8,000 renewal) are paused. Renewals are still accepted, and so are people who pre-registered and are still within that registration’s validity.

Final word: book at midnight, two weeks out

To get Shibuya Sky tickets for after 3pm, be on the official site at 00:00 Japan time, 14 days before your visit, and choose a slot 40–60 minutes before sunset. If it’s sold out, try a 2:40pm slot and stay on, the THE ROOF package, or refresh for cancellations the day before. 떠나기 전에 알아 둘 것

Sold out online = sold out

If adult tickets sell out on the website, the 14F counter has none either.

Lockers are small

Free 46F lockers are 32 × 37.5 × 43cm, so leave suitcases at Shibuya Station.

No hats on the roof

Hats, bags, earphones, tripods and selfie sticks all go in the locker.

Kids buy on the day

Ages 6–11 pay ¥1,200 at the counter only, even on sold-out days; 5 and under are free.

Roof closed? Cancel free

If Sky Stage is closed at your slot, online tickets can be cancelled before entry.

Don't go to Hikarie

The entrance is Scramble Square 14F, not the Sky Lobby on Hikarie 11F.

Shibuya Sky tickets FAQ

How much are Shibuya Sky tickets?

Adult tickets cost ¥2,700 online for entry 10:00–14:59 and ¥3,400 online for entry from 15:00. At the 14F counter they’re ¥3,000 and ¥3,700. Children aged 6–11 pay ¥1,200 at the counter only, and children 5 and under go free.

When do Shibuya Sky tickets go on sale?

Tickets go on sale two weeks before the visit date at 00:00 Japan time. The counter also sells up to two weeks ahead but shares the same stock, so sunset slots usually go online first.

Can I buy Shibuya Sky tickets on the day?

Adults only if your time slot isn’t sold out: the official FAQ says that when adult tickets sell out online, the counter is sold out too. Child tickets (ages 6–11) are sold at the counter on the day even when a slot is sold out. When we checked on 19 October 2026, every 3pm+ slot for the next two weeks was sold out or nearly gone.

What can’t you bring onto the Shibuya Sky rooftop?

Bags, tripods, monopods, selfie sticks, earphones, headphones, hats and caps, food and drink, and anything that could blow away. Phones and cameras or binoculars on a neck strap or small enough for a pocket are fine. Free lockers are on 46F.

What happens if the Shibuya Sky rooftop is closed?

Strong wind, rain, snow, thunder, smog or extreme heat can close the rooftop. If it’s closed at your entry time, official online tickets can be cancelled free on the day, up until you enter. Once you’ve entered there are no refunds, but the 46F indoor gallery stays open.

How long should I spend at Shibuya Sky?

There’s no time limit, but you can’t re-enter. We’d allow 60–90 minutes for a daytime visit and about two hours if you’re staying from sunset into the night view.

Is Shibuya Sky worth it?

On a clear day, yes: it’s the only major Tokyo deck with a fully open-air rooftop at 229m. On a hazy or windy day, consider the free Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building observatory or Tokyo Skytree instead.
