Fuji 5th Station and Hakone tours that come back by bullet train start from about US$150–160, and private tours from about US$250–460 per group. Most leave Shinjuku or Tokyo Station between 7:20 and 8:00am and take 10–11 hours. Most GetYourGuide and Viator listings let you cancel free up to 24 hours before.

The catch: no tour can promise you’ll see the mountain. Below we compare the five tour types sold most on Klook, Viator and GetYourGuide. Kawaguchiko & Chureito Pagoda photo-spot tour (Group coach)

The Lowdown: The biggest seller by far. Klook’s “Instagram-Worthy Spots” tour has 35,000+ reviews and 300,000+ bookings. You get about two hours on the coach each way and five or six short photo stops on the north side of Fuji: Arakurayama Sengen Park (Chureito Pagoda), the Hikawa Clock Shop street view, Oshino Hakkai’s spring ponds, Oishi Park on Lake Kawaguchi and the “Fuji Lawson”.

Where: Departs Tokyo Station or Shinjuku Station. The exact spot and guide details arrive by email the evening before (Klook says 20:00–21:00; JRT Group says before 19:00).

The Vibe: Fast, busy, very photogenic. Big coaches, a lot of people, and short stops (20–70 minutes each on JRT Group’s GetYourGuide version).

Price: From about US$47 on Klook and about US$49 for JRT Group’s 10-hour tour on GetYourGuide at time of writing (Oct 2026). Stop entry is free, and lunch is at your own cost.

Official Link: Klook – Mt. Kawaguchiko highlights + Fuji 5th Station (Group coach)

The Lowdown: Same lake circuit, plus a 40-minute stop at the Fuji Subaru Line 5th Station, about 2,300m up the mountain. Goryo Travel’s “Full-Day Highlights” trip on GetYourGuide is a typical example: Oishi Park (30 min), Chureito (75 min), Oshino Hakkai (80 min), then the 5th Station.

Where: Two pickups, Shinjuku and Tokyo Station. Fuji 5th Station + Hakone with bullet train return (Classic coach)

The Lowdown: The long-running “classic” from Japan Panoramic Tours. It’s the one sold on Viator as “Mt Fuji and Hakone 1-Day Bus Tour Return by Bullet Train”, with 32,000+ reviews averaging 4.8. You go to the 5th Station first, then Hakone for the Hakone Ropeway and a Lake Ashi cruise. Then you take the Shinkansen from Odawara to Tokyo Station, about 30–40 minutes.

Where: Matsuya Ginza at 7:20am or the LOVE sculpture in Shinjuku at 7:50am. On weekends and public holidays it leaves from Shinjuku only, at 7:30am. You finish at Tokyo Station at around 6pm.

The Vibe: Polished and well drilled. English-speaking guide, Wi-Fi on the coach, audio headsets in six more languages.

Price: From about US$150–160 at time of writing (Oct 2026): around US$159 on Viator, US$152 on GetYourGuide. The ropeway, cruise and bullet train ticket are included, and a buffet lunch is optional.

Official Link: Viator – Mt Fuji and Hakone 1-Day Bus Tour Return by Bullet Train

💡 Japan Pro Tip: If snow or weather stops the coach beyond the 4th Station, you get a substitute stop (Oshino Hakkai or similar), not a refund. Already have a JR Pass? The operator tells you to book the “Return by Bus” version instead.

4. Hakone-focused bus tour (Group coach, budget)

The Lowdown: For people who want Fuji in the background rather than as the main event. TAIHOU’s GetYourGuide tour covers Hakone Shrine’s lakeside torii, a Hakone Ropeway ride, a guided 50 minutes at Owakudani’s volcanic valley, Lake Yamanaka and Oshino Hakkai.

Where: JR Tokyo Station at 7:30am (by the “BEAMS” sign; the listing says to search “STAND T”) or Shinjuku at 8:00am (search “Tokyo Mode Gakuen”). Staff wear yellow vests.

The Vibe: More variety, more walking, a bit less Fuji-by-numbers.

Price: From about US$55 per person at time of writing (Oct 2026). The one-way ropeway ride is included. The Lake Ashi pirate ship is optional and self-paid (the listing says about ¥1,700).

Official Link: GetYourGuide – Mt. Photo: katsuma tanaka / Unsplash

Is a Mt Fuji tour worth it, or is DIY cheaper?

For one person, DIY by bus is cheaper. A tour mostly saves you the planning and the local transfers between scattered stops.

Option

One-way cost

Journey time

예약

Fuji Excursion limited express, Shinjuku → Kawaguchiko

¥4,200 (fare ¥2,580 + limited express ¥1,620)

about 2 hrs

No unreserved seats (reserved or “seat-unspecified” ticket); on sale 1 month ahead at 10:00

Fuji Excursion, Shinjuku → Shimo-Yoshida (for Chureito)

¥4,010

a few minutes less

As above

Highway bus, Busta Shinjuku → Kawaguchiko Station

¥2,000–2,200

about 1 hr 45 min

highwaybus.com

Highway bus, Busta Shinjuku → Fuji 5th Station (summer season only)

¥3,800 (Oct 2025 data)

about 2 hrs 35 min

highwaybus.com

Fuji Excursion fares are from Fujikyu Railway. The Kawaguchiko bus fare range and journey times are from highwaybus.com (Keio/Fujikyu); the 5th Station fare is from JNTO’s Tokyo tourist-centre timetable (October 2025 data), so check highwaybus.com for your date.

A DIY day that works: take Fuji Excursion 3 from Shinjuku at 7:30, which reaches Kawaguchiko in about two hours. It also stops at Shimo-Yoshida, about 10 minutes’ walk from Chureito. Spend the day around the lake and come back on the 16:48 from Kawaguchiko. Departures from Shinjuku are 7:30, 8:30, 9:30 and 10:30 daily. Return trains leave Kawaguchiko at 14:08, 14:58, 16:48 and 17:41.

In autumn there are extras: a 9:02 from Shinjuku and a 16:12 back on weekends and holidays until 29 November, and an 11:34 out and a 15:39 back on weekdays from 1 October to 30 November (timetable from 14 March 2026). A return trip comes to ¥8,400 by train or about ¥4,000–4,400 by bus, before local buses.

Our verdict: Book a tour if you want Chureito, Oshino Hakkai and Oishi Park in one day without juggling local buses. It also makes sense if you want the 5th Station and Hakone in one go, which is hard to do on public transport. Go DIY if you’re happy with one or two spots and a slower day by the lake. Low fences were reported in December 2024, and on 7 August 2025 a barrier of about 1.4m went up to keep people out of the road while leaving the view open (reported by the Mainichi). The reports cited around 200,000 visitors a year, which the residential area couldn’t cope with. Guards and traffic control were still planned for 1–17 April.
