According to Kagoshima Prefecture’s announcement (updated 18 September 2026), the prefecture provides “an amount equivalent to a one-way shinkansen fare from Hakata to Kagoshima”. Klook’s press release puts the value at up to ¥11,420.

Why is a prefecture paying for your train? Fukuoka gets the flights; Kagoshima, about 290 km further south, often gets skipped. The campaign launched on the same day the Kyushu Shinkansen fully reopened after the July 2026 Kumamoto earthquake, so it doubles as a recovery push for southern Kyushu. Japanese media reported the budget at about ¥278 million in the prefecture’s FY2026 plans, which also drew some domestic criticism, so do not expect it to be extended indefinitely.

Who qualifies for the free shinkansen tickets?

All three conditions must be true:

You live in one of eight markets: United States, Singapore, Thailand, Vietnam, South Korea, mainland China, Taiwan or Hong Kong. Select the exact number of guests: tickets are issued per guest on the booking.

Complete the short survey Klook sends after booking.

Receive your free shinkansen ticket code, which Klook sends 30 days before your hotel check-in date, and use it to book your one-way Hakata → Kagoshima ride.

What Klook’s terms say: you get one free one-way ticket per guest, based on the number of guests in the hotel booking. The coupon is tied to a non-cancellable hotel booking; if you cancel, change or refund the hotel, the shinkansen ticket is voided, and Klook can charge you the full fare for a ticket already issued. The promotion cannot be combined with other promotional programmes unless stated, and tickets are first come, first served.

What we could not confirm: how long the ticket code stays valid, and how residence or your Fukuoka arrival is checked. Read the terms on the campaign page before you pay, and screenshot them. We will update this guide if the official terms change.

Japan Pro tip: Book the hotel first, then plan the train. The code is tied to a non-cancellable hotel booking that must be made at least 3 days before check-in, and the campaign ends when the budget does, not on a fixed sales date. If you are travelling in January or February 2027, claim now rather than later.

How much are the free shinkansen tickets really worth?

The Hakata–Kagoshima-Chuo one-way fare with an unreserved seat is ¥11,420, which is exactly the campaign cap.
