The street festival is held on 12–15 August every year, over the Obon holiday, and 2027 falls on a long weekend. The organiser, the Awa Odori Mirai e Tsunagu executive committee, had not published 2027 dates, prices or a ticket calendar when we checked its official site on 23 October 2026.

In 2026 there was also a ticketed indoor show the day before, on 11 August (a public holiday). If that pattern repeats, Wednesday 11 August 2027 would be the warm-up day. Treat that as a guess until the committee confirms it.

Day (2026)

What ran

Where

Ticket?

Tue 11 Aug

“Takumi no Butai Yuribi” stage show, 12:00, 15:30, 19:00 (about 80 min each)

Asty Tokushima (indoor)

Yes: ¥2,800–¥5,000

Wed 12 – Sat 15 Aug

“Yume no Butai Matsuribi” stage show, 11:00, 13:30, 16:00 (about 70 min each)

Awagin Hall (indoor)

Yes: ¥2,800–¥4,500

Wed 12 – Sat 15 Aug

Grandstand venues, part 1 18:00–19:40, part 2 20:20–22:00

Aibahama, Minamiuchimachi, Konyamachi

Yes: ¥1,000–¥6,000 (¥15,000 special seats)

Wed 12 – Sat 15 Aug

Free stages 18:10–22:00; odori hiroba 18:00–22:00

Ryogoku Honmachi, Shinmachibashi, two riverside parks

No

Source: the committee’s 2026 schedule page. The indoor Matsuribi shows at Awagin Hall run at 11:00, 13:30 and 16:00, which makes them the only way to see dancers in the heat of the day, or on a night you can’t stay late.

18:00 — Part 1 starts at the three paid venues, and the free odori hiroba (dance squares) open by the river.

18:10 — The two free street stages, Ryogoku Honmachi and Shinmachibashi, start.

19:40–20:20 — Changeover at the paid venues. The order of groups by venue and time is published as a PDF on the viewers’ page of the official site before the festival.

Paid enbujo or free streets: which is better?

Do one of each. A grandstand seat gets you a clear, front-on view of the best-known ren for 100 minutes, with no shoving. The free streets get you closer, louder and more chaotic, and you can wander between them.

Venue (2026)

Type

Seats

Walk from JR Tokushima

Notes

Aibahama

Paid

About 4,600

5 min

Biggest and closest to the station

Minamiuchimachi

Paid

About 2,700

12 min

Only venue with ¥15,000 special seats; so-odori at the end of part 2

Konyamachi

Paid

About 2,200

15 min

On 13 Aug (part 2 only) groups dance in circles; all seats unreserved, ¥2,000

Ryogoku Honmachi

Free

Standing

7 min

18:10–22:00; sponsored, so the name may change

Shinmachibashi

Free

Standing

Not stated

18:10–22:00

Odori hiroba (Shinmachibashi-higashi Park, Ryogokubashi-nishi Park)

Free

Standing

Not stated

18:00–22:00; groups dance freely, not in procession

Seat numbers and walking times are from the official 2026 schedule. Dancers from well-known ren teach the basic steps on the spot, then lead the group into a dance venue.

In 2026 the meeting point was in front of the Awa Bank head office, with gathering times of 18:30, 19:30 and 21:30 each night from 12 to 15 August, according to the Walkerplus event listing. The official site publishes a niwaka-ren leaflet each year; check it for 2027 times and the exact spot. Women can dance either the men’s or the women’s style (HugKum).

Wear shoes you can bend your knees in.
